[GRADE A2 — EFTA00013181, EFTA00031704, EFTA00031705 (Epstein correspondence)]
On Aug 11, 2019, Nick Allen (Daily Telegraph, Washington editor) emailed a U.S. recipient asking, “on background,” whether authorities wanted to question Prince Andrew and Ghislaine Maxwell, and whether Maxwell was “cooperating with authorities.” The inquiry appears three times in the corpus (EFTA00013181, EFTA00031704, EFTA00031705). In one forward chain, the internal response is: “I’ll handle. Thanks.”
The documents show a direct press inquiry to U.S. authorities within 48 hours of Epstein’s death (Aug 10, 2019). The presence of multiple copies suggests internal forwarding or duplication in the record set.
WHAT THIS SHOWS AND DOES NOT SHOW: The evidence shows that UK press sought background confirmation about Andrew/Maxwell. It does NOT show any official response or confirmation, nor does it establish any factual claims about cooperation.
