A Boston Globe article from April 7, 2017, documents a Mar-a-Lago dinner where President Trump engaged Dershowitz on Israeli-Palestinian peace. Trump asked Dershowitz to contact Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Israeli media (Haaretz) reported Dershowitz was "tapped to be a back channel of sorts between Netanyahu and Trump." Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy was also present.
In January 2020, Trump selected Dershowitz AND Ken Starr — both former Epstein lawyers — for his Senate impeachment defense team. Dershowitz's role was presenting oral constitutional arguments against impeachment, including the theory that presidential actions motivated by re-election are not impeachable. Dershowitz himself acknowledged that his Epstein connection made his testimony "toxic." House Oversight documents (HOUSE_OVERSIGHT_029165) show Dershowitz offered Trump "frequent legal advice both in person and via television."
The jmail corpus reveals how Epstein's network viewed Dershowitz's Trump-era positioning:
HOUSE_OVERSIGHT_017767 documents Dershowitz's social shunning at Martha's Vineyard following the Epstein allegations — showing real-world consequences for his Epstein association within his own social milieu.
Dershowitz has been building a "legal dream team" to defend Israel and Netanyahu at the International Criminal Court regarding ICC arrest warrants. He has publicly called for charges against Netanyahu to be dismissed. This continued positioning as Israel's premier American legal advocate extends the geopolitical bridge role.
The Trump-Netanyahu back-channel episode (2017), the impeachment defense team selection (2020), and the ICC defense advocacy (2024-2026) establish Dershowitz as a persistent connector between American and Israeli political power. The same individual who received privilege-marked allegations naming an Israeli PM (Barak, 2011) was later serving as intermediary for a different Israeli PM (Netanyahu) with the U.S. president, then defending yet another Israeli PM (Netanyahu) at the ICC.
WHAT THIS SHOWS AND DOES NOT SHOW: Dershowitz functioned as a geopolitical bridge between U.S. and Israeli leadership across multiple administrations. His Epstein network was aware of and commented on this positioning. It does NOT establish that this bridge function was directed by Israeli state actors. It DOES establish that Dershowitz occupied a unique and persistent position at the intersection of Israeli political access and U.S. legal/political power.
