[V7.0] The complete email chain reveals the full slush fund mechanism:
Setup (Apr 21, 2014, EFTA01928533): Epstein to Ito: "yes. and then i am seeing larry summers for dinner...we need to talk slush fund, reid, goggles etc" — placing the slush fund discussion alongside Larry Summers dinner plans and Reid Hoffman coordination. [GRADE A1]
Pre-planning (May 2, 2014, EFTA01927709): Epstein to Ito: "great, thanks, im in paris, I would like 1, papers for smarthtings and glasses 2. we should set acct for ito slush, 3. ask reid to give me a call. 4. I would like to hire a chief science officer." Ito replied: "The slush fund, if it's at MIT is easy. Should I send you the instructions? Will it be coming from Leon Black? How much?" Same email: "Papers for SmartThings came in. Send it to you or your lawyer?" [GRADE A1]
Gift letter fabrication (May 8, 2014, EFTA02365699): Ito sends Epstein "Slush fund paperwork" with attachments "Leon Black letter.docx" and "ML Gift Information." Ito writes: "Here is a sample letter and information on sending a check or wire transfer to send money to MIT so it ends up in my discretionary account. It was written assuming that it would be coming from Leon Black, but please have someone edit it if necessary." [GRADE A1]
Deposit confirmation (May 29, 2014, EFTA01922742): Ito to Epstein: "I just got notice that $500K came into my slush fund account. Thanks! Should I thank Leon Black?" Epstein replied 3 minutes later: "Yes" (EFTA01922813). [GRADE A1]
Follow-up revealing opacity (May 29, 2014, EFTA01923587): Ito: "Can you give me his email? Does he think he gave the money on your behalf or is it from him? Also, does he know he's giving more money in Dec and Jan or should I not mention that?" [GRADE A1]
Richard Kahn email (EFTA01915161): "gift from Enhanced to be used for Joscha expenses... should i send $50,000 tomorrow." Joscha Bach was informed (EFTA01916461): "Jeffrey's sending $50K for your expenses. MIT will take a 10% overhead." [GRADE A1]
November 2015 (EFTA02346382): Ito asked Epstein if an anonymous donation from "your foundation" was acceptable. [GRADE A2]
[V7.0] April 20, 2018 (EFTA02468330): Ito to Epstein, CC: Adam Mullinax: "Hi Jeffrey, I'm moving forward with the fund docs with Reid. Can I count you in? Should we send you and Darren the docs? Adam is working on the fund with me." This establishes Ito soliciting both Epstein and attorney Darren Indyke as investors in April 2018 — a decade after conviction. [GRADE A2]
[V7.0] Web research: Reid Hoffman stated on X (2026) that Ito asked him to help MIT fundraise from Epstein, acknowledging meetings with Epstein in 2015, 2016, and 2018. Adam Back (Blockstream CEO) confirmed on X meeting Epstein during Blockstream's 2014 seed round, introduced by Ito. Epstein entities funded Blockstream Investments with $500K in 2014 through Ito. Ito used Epstein "gift funds" to launch the MIT Digital Currency Initiative in April 2015. [GRADE B]
Epstein to Ito (EFTA02456088): "thank you for guiding me away from the conference... kate darling on pedophiles, funny..." Kate Darling is an MIT Media Lab robotics researcher. [GRADE A2]
[V7.0] From web research (MIT Goodwin Procter Report, BuzzFeed News, Axios):
| Source | Amount | Flow |
|---|---|---|
| Epstein direct to Media Lab | $525,000 | 10 donations, 2002-2017 |
| Epstein to Ito personal funds | $1,200,000 | Investment in Ito's funds |
| Leon Black via Epstein to MIT | ~$5,000,000 | Charity spreadsheet (EFTA02371754) |
| Bill Gates via Epstein to MIT | $2,000,000 | Ito email: "directed by Jeffrey Epstein" |
| Seth Lloyd direct from Epstein | $225,000 | 2012-2017 |
| Total MIT Epstein-connected | ~$9,000,000+ |
WHAT THIS SHOWS: Epstein was the intermediary between Leon Black's money and MIT Media Lab. The v7.0 email chain reveals Ito fabricated gift paperwork pre-formatted with Leon Black's name. MIT processed these as direct Black gifts — the institution may not have known Epstein directed the giving. The charity spreadsheet (v7.0) reveals Black's MIT commitment was actually $5M — 10x the $500K that arrived in the "slush fund." Additional payments were planned for December and January per Ito's email. Ito admitted to $525K from Epstein for the Media Lab and $1.2M for private ventures; the New Yorker reported $7.5M total from Leon Black and Bill Gates was channeled through Epstein. MIT concealment system: Epstein was officially "disqualified" from MIT's donation database — staff referred to him as "Voldemort."
