[GRADE A1 — Wyden Senate Memo, JPMC internal documents (DOJ investigative product)]
Mary Callahan Erdoes, CEO of JPMorgan Chase's Asset & Wealth Management division, appears in 34 jmail emails, 36 DugganUSA documents, and multiple Neo4j graph entries across the spacy-ner and indexofepstein datasets. Her documentary footprint is smaller than the other financial gatekeepers but her institutional position makes her strategically significant.
EFTA01480799 contains the most direct characterization of Erdoes's relationship with Epstein in JPMC internal documents:
"Epstein is known to senior management, including John Duffy and Mary Erdoes for many years. Overall PB/PWM relationship size and type of accounts: The Epstein relationship was over $200MM."
This document — an internal JPMC compliance or due diligence record — establishes that: (1) Erdoes personally knew Epstein, (2) the relationship predated the document's creation, and (3) the relationship was valued at over $200 million.
As documented in Part 2 (Nikolic), EFTA01301097 CC'd Erdoes on Epstein's "outline" email to Staley and Nikolic about "Private Foundation — gates/jpm." A follow-up email (EFTA01301106, August 16, 2011) was sent from Epstein directly to Erdoes with Staley CC'd: "Re: Just so I am clear."
The subject line "Just so I am clear" indicates a clarification or confirmation of terms previously discussed — consistent with ongoing financial planning conversations between Epstein and JPMC's most senior asset management executive.
The Neo4j graph records Erdoes as LINKED_TO Jeffrey Epstein AND Leon Black (indexofepstein), establishing a documented triangular relationship between JPMC's AWM CEO, Epstein, and his largest individual financial relationship. Groff's jmail emails include repeated "Reminder Mary Erdoes" entries, indicating scheduled calls or meetings coordinated through Epstein's operational system.
Nikolic wrote in an August 2011 jmail email: "The invite itself came from Jamie Diamond [sic] but I think that Erdoes instrumented it" — indicating that Erdoes facilitated an invitation that came nominally from JPMC CEO Jamie Dimon.
Erdoes occupies a unique position: she is the most senior JPMC executive documented in direct email correspondence with Epstein. While the Wyden memo extensively documents JPMC's institutional failures (see MOL-04, MOL-06), Erdoes represents the personalization of that institutional relationship — a named individual who "knew" Epstein "for many years" and managed a "$200MM+" relationship.
WHAT THIS SHOWS AND DOES NOT SHOW: The documentary record establishes that Erdoes was identified in JPMC internal documents as having personally known Epstein for many years, that she managed a relationship valued at $200MM+, and that she was CC'd on financial planning emails between Epstein, Staley, and Nikolic involving Gates Foundation connections. It does NOT establish that Erdoes was aware of Epstein's criminal activities, that she facilitated any improper conduct, or that her management of the relationship violated any law. Erdoes has not been charged with any crime in connection with Epstein.
Mary Erdoes has no composite_score in the Neo4j graph (scoring pipeline not run for this individual). Her documentary footprint is the smallest of the five gatekeepers: 34 jmail emails, 36 DugganUSA documents, 5 "Mary Erdoes" DugganUSA matches, and 3 HOUSE_OVERSIGHT MENTIONED_IN records. Yet her strategic significance is arguably the highest — she managed a "$200MM+" relationship and was identified by name in JPMC internal compliance documents.
The Neo4j graph confirms the LINKED_TO triangle: Erdoes LINKED_TO Jeffrey Epstein AND Leon Black (both indexofepstein). The Black-Erdoes direct link was confirmed via crosscut query (C5b). The LINKED_TO_OFFSHORE connections are all ICIJ false positives — Malta "St. Mary Street" address matches and "Callahan" surname matches (Erdoes's maiden name is Callahan), not offshore financial entities.
Erdoes appears in 2 graph variants: "Mary Erdoes" (indexofepstein) and "Mary Callahan Erdoes" (spacy-ner), both with identical relationship patterns. MENTIONED_IN documents include HOUSE_OVERSIGHT_027249, TEXT-001-HOUSE_OVERSIGHT_027248, and HOUSE_OVERSIGHT_017060_part1.
