[GRADE A2 — EFTA02670455 (Epstein jmail archive, VOL00011)]
On November 2, 2016, an email from Ehud Barak (sender: "ehbarak," email domain: @gmail.com) was captured in Epstein's jmail system. The email, a reply with subject "Re: News," reads:
Hi Nicole On flights to Peru PE. Will answer towards weekend. Best Ehud Sent from my iPhone
The email is tagged to person slug "ehud-barak" and has a thread message count of 2 (indicating a prior message from "Nicole" that is not fully visible in the preview). The email received 5 stars in the jmail system, suggesting it was flagged as significant.
The email establishes that Ehud Barak — former Israeli Prime Minister (1999–2001), former Defense Minister, documented Epstein associate, and Carbyne co-founder — was traveling to Peru in early November 2016. This coincides precisely with the APEC Summit held in Lima from November 17–21, 2016, hosted by President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski. The timing raises the question of whether Barak's Peru travel was connected to the APEC gathering, to defense industry business (Israel maintains significant defense sales relationships with Peru), or to other purposes.
The "Nicole" referenced in the email is consistent with Nicole Junkermann, who appears 3,475 times in the Epstein files and maintained extensive correspondence with Epstein throughout the 2010s. Junkermann sits on the Tate Americas Foundation Latin American Acquisitions Committee.
WHAT THIS SHOWS AND DOES NOT SHOW: The email establishes that Barak was traveling to Peru and communicated this through Epstein's email system to someone named Nicole. It does NOT establish the purpose of the trip, whether Epstein was involved in arranging or funding the travel, or whether any illegal activity occurred. Barak's Peru travel may have been entirely routine diplomatic or business activity.
