On December 6, 2018, Epstein forwarded Steve Bannon an article titled "Alex Acosta update | Power Line" and added: "do you know bill barr. CIA."
This email, sent while Epstein was still free, connects three elements:
The Acosta NPA was signed in 2008 during the Bush 43 administration. The fulltext search for Acosta AND "Bush administration" returns 3 documents confirming the temporal overlap. plea AND Bush returns 20 documents, and FBI AND Bush returns 20 documents, though many are news digest compilations rather than investigative records.
Epstein's mention of "CIA" in connection with Barr is notable but ambiguous -- it could reference Barr's CIA legal work (1973-1977), his father's intelligence community connections, or general reputation. The email demonstrates Epstein was tracking DOJ leadership changes and had a direct communication channel with Bannon.
WHAT THIS SHOWS AND DOES NOT SHOW: Documents show Epstein communicated with Bannon about Acosta and Barr. They show Epstein referenced the CIA in connection with Barr. They do NOT show any S&B institutional mechanism. The Bush administration temporal overlap with the NPA is factual but does not demonstrate causation.
