George Church -- Harvard Medical School professor, pioneer in reading and writing biological code, and director of the Personal Genome Project -- is one of the most documented scientific contacts in the corpus. The graph database records 80 relationships, and the jmail dataset contains 79 Church-related emails.
[V2.0]: The earliest documented Church-Epstein contact is February 25, 2008: a jmail entry titled "Jeffrey Epstein & Church Lab annual update" sent from George Church to Groff. The word "annual" indicates a recurring formal relationship predating even this earliest artifact.
The Thakuria Sequencing Track:
Joseph Thakuria, an MGH (Massachusetts General Hospital) medical geneticist working under Church's umbrella, coordinated Epstein's personal genome sequencing across the following documented timeline:
Total documented Thakuria payments: $12,000+ (check $2,000 + cash $10,000 + possible Illumina $11,400).
The Church-Epstein Investment Vehicle:
[V2.0 EXPANDED]: On August 11, 2014, Church proposed to Epstein a joint investment entity for $10M across genomics companies. Church suggested names: "Revenesis.com (short for 'Regenesis ventures', based on my book title). Alternative 2: Transvenesis.com. Alternative 3: Georgarage.com" (EFTA01980600). Church wrote: "at Google Sci-foo this weekend several DIYBio hackers and investors spontaneously said that they'd love to see a 'George's Garage' newsletter, since so many disruptive ideas in Bio-nano-info seem to be coming these days from my lab." Earlier, Church had written: "Many thanks for your very encouraging words yesterday morning. This is already a super interesting experiment (even with $0 spent), since I am looking at my whole ecosystem of companies and unassigned inventions totally differently" (EFTA00631419, Jul 2014).
Investment targets included eGenesis ($1.5M), Supercentenarian study ($200K), Next generation pathology ($1.55M), Space Genetics ($250K), Cold-resistant elephants (de-extinction), and CRISPR components.

On December 18, 2014, Richard Kahn forwarded to Epstein the "Leon Black Proposal, Terms and Wiring Instructions: Genomics and Synthetic Biology Research Fund Terms -- George Church" (EFTA00714664). Harvard Medical School Terms of Gift specified $2,000,000 from Leon D. Black for the Genomics and Synthetic Biology Research Fund "under the direction of George M. Church, PhD." Church's "end of year help" financial acknowledgment occurred the same week.
The Nikolic-Church-CRISPR Nexus:
[V2.0 EXPANDED]: Boris Nikolic served as the primary bridge between Epstein and the CRISPR investment pipeline. Nikolic forwarded both the Foundation Medicine/Gates cancer DNA sequencing investment (EFTA01908024, Jan 2013) and the Illumina Accelerator genomics incubator launch (EFTA01933592, Feb 2014) to Epstein. Nikolic announced the $120M Editas CRISPR investment with Gates/Google participation (EFTA02361191, Aug 2015), described 5x oversubscription demand (EFTA02493180), and directed Epstein to query Church about CRISPR IP disputes: "ask him what he thinks will happened with IP around CRISPR/Cas9" (EFTA02389983). Epstein responded: "im going to see george church today. what do you need me to do" (EFTA02499436), confirming Nikolic as upstream coordinator of the Church relationship.
The Harvard pipeline reveals a four-layer structure: Church (institutional access and scientific legitimacy), Thakuria (clinical execution and record avoidance), Kahn (financial packaging), and Nikolic (investment direction). The v2.0 discovery of fibroblast cell lines frozen at Boston Children's Hospital elevates this from genome sequencing to permanent biological material banking. The Church-Epstein relationship, dating to at least February 2008, is the longest-running scientific partnership in the corpus.
WHAT THIS SHOWS AND DOES NOT SHOW: The documents establish that Epstein funded personal genome sequencing at $11,400+ through Thakuria/Church, deliberately structured to avoid medical records; that fibroblast cell lines were permanently banked in cryogenic storage; that Church and Epstein planned a $10M joint investment entity for genomics companies; and that Nikolic directed Epstein's interactions with Church on CRISPR matters. The documents do NOT establish that Church was aware of the broader DNA collection infrastructure, and do NOT establish that the research fund or banked biological material was used for anything other than legitimate genomic research.
