[GRADE A1 — FBI internal communication]
EFTA00037187 (August 4, 2020): FBI agents investigating Deutsche Bank wrote: "To the extent Maxwell changes her tune, and seeks to be more cooperative, we would love to have you ask some questions for us, regarding her understanding of JE's relationship with Deutsche Bank."
This establishes that the FBI believed Maxwell possessed knowledge about Epstein's Deutsche Bank relationship beyond what was documented in bank records. At the time of this email, Maxwell had been arrested (July 2, 2020) and was not cooperating. Her subsequent conviction (December 2021) did not include Deutsche Bank-related charges.
The FBI email also confirms Morris was Maxwell's JPM banker (corroborated by 6 JPM account statements in the EFTA production — see SVE-01) — establishing that the Morris-Maxwell banking relationship preceded the Deutsche Bank period.
WHAT THIS SHOWS AND DOES NOT SHOW: The FBI sought Maxwell's cooperation on DB matters, indicating the investigation went beyond bank compliance failures to the client-side understanding of the relationship. Whether Maxwell ever provided information about the DB relationship is not established in the available record.
